2009 ranges.
Hi all
Well ive started to visit my suppliers to view the 2009 ranges of tents etc. I was shocked how much everything is going up by. I new the prices would rise but 25% - 30% was hard to take. This is not just one supplier but across the board. When you look at the fabrics that the tents are made from its understandable, oil based polyester and plastic windows. Anything to do with metal has increased by the same amount also. Just getting the goods to the UK from China is costing more and more. So get ready for some higher prices.
Outwell have the most amazing Tipi / Bell tent with a porch, I think we have sold the first one in the UK from the pre season work book. £700.00 ish but looks great and in the polycotton fabric.

Hi
Any chance of any photo’s sepcifications on the Tipi,s. I’ve been looking at the one’s from the Bell Tent co.uk. How do they compare. Outwells are much more expensive so assume they are better? Would appreceiate any information you can let me have. Live in the North of England so popping in out of the question i’m afraid!
Thanks

Thank-you for scanning the pictures. Can you post the size measurements on here as I can’t make them out. Also any idea on the carpet price? Many thanks.

Hi Jo
The width across the inners is 450cm and the depth from the back to the front is 450cm plus 130 for the porch. 320cm high.
The carpet will be £54.99 and the footprint will be £34.99.
We would possible knock £5.00 of each for an early season order.

New Outwell Tipi looks great but too cool for me. Do you have any infomation on 2009 Bear Lake 6? I was close to purchasing the 2008 model but decided to wait for the 2009. Do you have any speccifications and pictures or is their anything new of a similar size and quality. Finally is the 2009 model available for pre order?
September 25th, 2008 at 8:35 am
Hi Scott
The 09 Bear lake is just the same as the 08, no changes at all.
Re the rest of the Lake range, well thats staying just the same apart from the new Outwell Indian Lake Tipi/Bell tent.
Re Pre ordering, its up to you but i would get one now if you have the money as we have one left at £539.99. The 09 price is going to be around ££800. The best normal price for the 08 season was £630 so you can see the increase is about 25% which is the same across most tent brands for the 09 season.

What other changes are their to Outwell’s range? I am about to buy a new tent and I need a 10-12 man tent and I don’t know whther to buy one now or wait until the 2009 range comes out?
September 25th, 2008 at 1:35 pm
Hi Jayne
There are a number of new models from Outwell for the 09 season. If your looking for a 10-12 man tent then theres not a lot about. The Hartford xxl is still in the range, this is a 4 pod dome style tent.
The biggest one is called the Maryland xxl, this is similar to the Nebraska xxl but nicer and a bit easier to pitch. Its in the new Mocca colour way and will cost about £700.
If you have an Outwell dealer near to you im sure they will be glad to show you the 09 workbook as the customer leaflets are not out yet.

Hello Gary
We’ve just bought a new Outwell Hartford xxl, I hope this was a good move on our part. The Outwell Hartford xxl seems to tick all the boxes for us as a family of 6 requiring four bedrooms.
This is the first time a tent has been in our family for over 20 years, we’ve moved from caravanning to holidaying in a tent & I hope we’ve bought a good one.

Hi
Well for starters you will have saved a good amount on the 2009 price and this tent is not changing for 2009.
Its a great tent and possible the best if you really need the four sleeping pods. The only problem you may have is finging campsites in the uk who will take a tent of this size. I would advise that if the campsite dosnt ask the size of your tent then take a name of who you spoke to, that way if you turn up and they say “we dont take tents this size” you can always remind them they didnt say that when you spoke to so and so etc.
Great tent though.

Hi,
Thanks for all the very useful information.
I have been looking at buying a large polycotton tent for family holidays in france (we need three doublish bedrooms, a decent living area and have a strong preference for polycotton in view of heat). But nothing in the 2008 ranges quite hit the mark (the 2008 outwell wolf lake 7 and vango zanzibar 800 come closest). We were planning to wait to see the 2009 ranges. But now I am getting worried about the price rises?
Is there anything new in polycotton by Vango or Outwell that we should hang on for or should we snap the wolf 7 or zanzibar up now?! (All the information I’ve been able to find to date suggests there is nothing suitable going to be produced by Vango, but Outwell’s new range - avantgarde? - might be worth waiting for).
Any help much appreciated!

Hi Matthew
The outwell range of pollu cottons is just the same for 09 as 08 apart from the new funky Indian lake tipi style tent.
Re vango again nothing much re changes for 09. I would only go for an Outwell polly cotton as they use a great breathable fabric, all the other makes that ive seen such as Kyham, Vango, Sunncamp etc use a polly cotton that has a higher polyester content which means they need more waterproofing which then cuts down on how well the tent breaths. Saying that the above brands tend to be cheaper for the polly cottons.

Hi chaps.
I very nearly bought the Wolflake 7 a few months back, at the end of season, when they were priced at around £700. I thought that rather expensive, which was what put me off finally. Now that they have increased the price by 30% there is no chance (£999?! Dream on!). Considering the current economic climate, and the huge reduction in the price of oil and metal etc I think a lot of retailers will be going bust this year trying to justify and maintain such inflated prices. I’ve been looking around for a 2008 model at the original price, and even the retailer who openly states he bought in a large number of 2008 models, at the 2008 wholesale prices, to beat the price increases (to “pass on the savings”) has put the price up by £200 (to £899).
If I can get one at £700 I’ll buy. Otherwise, lose the business, because I’m not prepared to be ripped-off by this bogus excuse for a 30% hike when we all know that kind of increase cannot be justified under any circumstances. It’s purely down to the greed of the manufacturer (Outwell). And what dire timing…I won’t be suprised to hear they’ve gone bust by the end of this year.

Hi Paul
I thought i would just give you the other side of the story.
The Wolf lake was £850 at the start of the 2008 season, which is about double the price you would normally pay for a polyester tent of the same design. The Wolf Lake would last about 4-5 times as long so they are pretty good value i feel. Yes at the end of the season you could pick one up for £700. Thats down to the camping trade being very seasonal and the long hard winter takes some getting through when no money is coming in, so some retailers will clear any tents they have left over.
Re the price increase, its about 17.5% up on the normall selling price of the 2008 season.
Re the price of steel etc, most tents for the 2009 season had the raw fabrics and frames etc made at just the wrong time, ie when the price of metals and oil were at there highest. Then people like Outwell etc based the prices they charge ourselves (retailers) on the dollar being $1.85 ish but when they come to pay for these goods the dollar has dropped to around £1.40. Thats about 25% extra cost to the brands like Outwell. That eats into their profit margins by a huge amount.
So this is why suppliers have put the prices up and and thats why the retail prices are rising.
You say your not “prepared to be ripped-off by this bogus excuse for a 30% hike when we all know that kind of increase cannot be justified under any circumstances.” Well the long and short of it is we have had it so good for so long (everyone i mean) and now the crows are coming home to roost. I/we have to pay for it if we want it and we retailers and suppliers have to make a profit or you will never see anything. These profits i talk about are not huge, just look at the amount of retailers who are no longer with us.
So i hope this help you with the facts.

G, fair points I guess. But it doesn’t alter the fact that a grand for a tent, especially in the current climate, is just not going to fly for most prospective purchasers. So they’ll go for the cheaper nylon jobbies and Outwell will be lucky to survive, especially given that their nylon tents are over-priced too.
It’s a shame because I understand they make a good tent. But not £1000 good.

hi i have just picked up a wolf lake 7 ex display model for 600 pounds what a bargain you just need to look and shop around
December 3rd, 2009 at 9:19 pm
I got a brand-new one for £750 in the end (just before summer). It had a 5p-sized hole in the floor, from where the box had been dragged over the wharehouse floor and gone through the cardboard. That was easily repaired. We’ve had two weeks out of it so far, and it’s a superb tent.
